Lt. Mike Davis of Athens Police Department will present on the role of the peace officer in our community and instruct on Miranda Rights, level of susicion, and probable cause.  Educator training will facilitate critical thinking strategies with peer volunteers and court coordinator will facilitate training of referrals.

Students will have a guided tour of the Henderson County Sheriff's Department.  Students MUST arrive by 9:45a.m.

Educator-led training--In "Why Laws?" attendees will learn the importance of fair and consistent rules in a game and the importance of following the rules for success and how this principle applies to individual lives and society.  In "Claim Your Juriscition" attendess will learn various legal terms including jurisdiction.  In this lesson students will learn the differnce between state and federal courts, make posters displaying the state and federal court system and graphing their jurisdiction.  They will finish with a game in which students must decide if their assigned court can "claim jursidiction".

3rd District Court observation.  In lieu of training on 7/4, this is one of two court observations available for July's training session.  Please arrive promptly by 8:30a.m. dressed appropriately for court.

Educator Led--“Deliberately Deliberate about Deliberation”    Participants will understand the responsibilities of the jury and the deliberation process discussing remorse, restitution, punishment, and the responsibility of a juror in deliberation.

Participants will understand the intake, interview, and preparation necessary for both the prosecution, defense, and defendant and participate in a simulation exercise.  Defendants will receive instruction in a new community service opportunity through Teen Court.
